Job Description

Machakos County, nicknamed ‘Macha,’ was the first capital city of Kenya and is now an administrative county in Kenya. Machakos is made up of eight (8) constituencies including Machakos Town, Mavoko, Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Kathiani, Matungulu, and Mwala. Machakos Town is the administrative capital of the County.

Duties and Responsibilities

• An officer at this level will be on job training and will work under the guidance of a senior and more experienced officer. Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-
• receiving, recording, packaging, dispatching, analyzing and preserving samples;
• preparing media, stains and dyes;
• maintaining biological cultures;
• caring for laboratory animals;
• undertaking disease surveillance activities;
• performing vaccine, animal products and byproducts quality assurance tests;
• calibrating laboratory equipment;
• standardizing laboratory procedures and writing reports.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

• Bachelors degree in any of the following fields:- Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical/Applied Chemistry, Applied Biology, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology in any of the following fields: (Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Biology Civil Engineering, Civil) from a recognized institution; and
• Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution
