Job Description

Machakos County, nicknamed ‘Macha,’ was the first capital city of Kenya and is now an administrative county in Kenya. Machakos is made up of eight (8) constituencies including Machakos Town, Mavoko, Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Kathiani, Matungulu, and Mwala. Machakos Town is the administrative capital of the County.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –

  • initiating and implementing of fisheries policies, programmes and strategies;
  • monitoring the implementation of regional and international fisheries agreements;
  • coordinating the strengthening of fisheries extension services;
  • promoting co-operation between the fisheries sector and local/international stakeholders;
  • implementation of multilateral projects and programmes.
  • undertaking cost effective research to advance the County priorities on fisheries sector;
  • promoting fish marketing and value addition;
  • harmonizing fisheries technical training in liaison with relevant institutions;
  • undertaking, monitoring and evaluation activities in the Directorate.

Requirement for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

  • Fifteen (15) years of working experience in the fisheries sector in Public Service or Private Sector of which five (5) must be in managerial position,
  • Bachelors Degree in any of the following fields;-Fisheries, Zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemistry or any other equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution;
  • Masters degree in any of the following fields;-Biological Sciences, Natural resource Management, Aquatic Sciences, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Physical Sciences or any other equivalent and relevant degree from a recognized Institution;
  • competence in planning and implementation of development, management and research of fisheries projects and programs;
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution;
  • knowledge of the Fisheries development and management policies, Fisheries Act and other related Statutes and international conventions;
