Data Analysis Assistant Job at United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON)

Job Description

United Nations and regional organizations; provides administrative and other support services to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat); provides joint and common services to other organizations of the United Nations system in Kenya, as applicable; and manages and implements the programmes of administration, conference services and public information and provides security and safety services for United Nations staff and facilities in the United Nations Office at Nairobi.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports based on organizational needs and requirements for reporting and analysis.
  • Support more senior staff in their work on process improvement mechanisms.
  • Contribute to the preparation of data sets, being responsible for the acquisition and initial cleaning of data from primary and secondary data systems and documents data sets used.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of databases, contributes to data collection projects, products, tools and processes to extend the capabilities of client offices.
  • Contribute to the identification and analysis of patterns in data sets using various methods.
  • Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests and maintains/updates web pages.
  • Automate the process of data extraction, data cleansing and consolidation for the generation of billing statistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Supplemental training in data analytics is desirable. Passing the United Nations Data Assistant Test is a prerequisite recruitment consideration for Data Assistants and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat.
  • The test is administered to applicants when required before the administration of a written assessment and/or interview.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area is required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced by two years for candidates who possess a first level University degree.
  • Experience designing and deploying self-service analytics and reports in data visualization applications (MS Power BI, Qlik, Tableau or similar) is desirable.
  • Experience using Webi reports and OLAP analytical spaces in SAP Business Objects is desirable. Experience using database languages or programming languages (R, Python, SQL or others) is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. NOTE: “fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ” Knowledge of” equals a rating of ” confident” in two of the four areas.
